The Breed Fund for Design
The Breed Fund for Design provides support to graduate students who wish to attend relevant design conferences or need critical funding for design projects. Funds may be used for travel, conference registration fees, and project costs. Most grants will be relatively small -- $100 to $1000. Funding is provided by the Segal Design Institute and the Breed Chair in Design.
Requests should be submitted to breedfund@mccormick.northwestern.edu. Please include your name, the purpose, the amount being requested and a one-paragraph explanation. Requests must be submitted at least 1 week prior to any expected expenditure of funds. If approved, you will be responsible for paying upfront and submitting an expense report, with original receipts, for reimbursement.
Recipients will have three responsibilities:
- All university expenditure rules must be followed.
University travel expense policies
Information on tax exemption - Students who are awarded funds must write a short report about their project and the value received. We will include these reports in the annual reports for both Segal and the Breed Chair in Design.
- Recipients of funds should include a credit to the Breed Fund on any project presentations or reports created.
Questions should be directed to Donald Norman, Breed Senior Professor of Design: norman@northwestern.edu.
