June 17, 2009 · In Spring Quarter 2008, an EDC team (Tyler Johnson, Joshua Lau, Kevin Li, and Elena Zhang) proposed a set of design concepts for a river water intake system for the Kankakee River water plant of Aqua Illinois, Inc. The challenge: prevent water intake from being buried by sand and other debris triggered by storms.

The team's design will be featured in a poster presentation at the American Water Works Annual Conference in San Diego. Students Kevin Li and Elena Zhang have received a travel grant from Northwestern to attend the conference and represent their team.
