Wind turbine designers win Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge
March 31, 2009 · A team of students working on a wind turbine kit for use in rural India is one of the winners of the Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge. Team members Zachary Lindemann, Yann Manibog, Eric West and SuelynYu worked under the supervision of Walter Herbst.
The award of $10,000 will go towards travel, testing, and further development of the project. The Dow Chemical Company is planning an event to recognize the winners of this prize from the six participating universities (Northwestern, Cambridge , Peking, Tufts, Michigan and Sao Paolo).
Distributed World Power (DWP) is a company aiming to create technology and energy products that improve quality of life. They have been working with a Segal team to create small-scale wind turbines to generate electricity for rural households in India.
