Instructors:
- Stacy Benjamin, s-benjamin@northwestern.edu
- Barbara Shwom, bshwom@northwestern.edu
In the DSGN 298-398 course sequence, students work in teams on multidisciplinary projects in a learn-by-doing format. Each team works on one project across both quarters, for 20 weeks. The first quarter emphasizes project research, concept development and professional communication, and it includes lectures on advanced topics in design. The quarter culminates in a conceptual design and a design review. The second quarter focuses on project implementation with no new lecture material. In addition to the course instructors, each project also has a faculty advisor to provide additional topic-specific expertise.
DSGN 298 is intended for juniors and seniors; enrollment is by instructor consent. If you are interested in taking the courses, read the project descriptions linked above and select your top two choices. The descriptions list majors or experience that are particularly valuable, however, the projects are not restricted to students in those majors. Write an email to the instructors including the following information:
- Your major and year of study
- Your reason for taking the course
- What you hope to learn from each of the two projects you selected
- What you are able to contribute to each of the two projects you selected
The instructors will follow up with any questions and provide you with a permission number to enroll.
If you are part of a club and want to submit a club project and enroll some team members in the course, please contact the instructors.
