Scott Wilson, founder of design studio Minimal, Inc., spoke at Segal Design Institute

Greg Holderfield, Clinical Associate Professor and Distinguished Fellow of the Segal Design Institute, invited Scott Wilson, world-renowned industrial designer and founder of design studio Minimal, Inc. (MNML), to the DSGN 495 Design Strategy class on Friday, May 7. Scott discussed the Power of Emotion and Industrial Design by referencing his product designs and concepts. Scott reflected on his dynamic career as a designer, showing the class many of his past designs and concepts. While the Global Design Director at Nike, Scott’s team filmed a video of ethnographic research they used to help design a bag for basketball players’ gear. The video was a compilation of “man on the street” interviews with basketball players in Compton, CA.


Scott has been called a “Renaissance man” by Time Magazine and was awarded one of their "Style&Design 100" in 2007 for his updates to the Swingline stapler, a Nike digital bracelet watch he designed, his line of modern baby furniture, and other projects. In 2006, Fast Company named Scott one of their Masters of Design.
